Wairuna Runoff Opening

The development of Wairuna runoff has been a collaborative journey spearheaded by Hekeao Hinds Lowlands Catchment Group facilitator Phillip Everest and generously supported by the McKenzie family and Mid Canterbury Catchment Collective (MCCC).

Flowing into the lower reaches of the Hinds River, the Montgomery drain serves as the focal point of this community-driven proof-of-concept endeavour. The primary goal is to assess the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of nitrogen removal while exploring the potential for scalable solutions.

Ongoing monitoring at the site is made possible through our innovative technology, including our real-time nitrate sensor.

From meticulous site selection to project completion, this initiative has provided invaluable insights for all involved, with continuous learning shaping the journey ahead.

It is an excellent showcase of community spirit and collaborative efforts working towards the same goal.
